A beautiful antique circa 1870s copper rondeau with iron handles and hand-applied tin lining, from the Astor House in New York City. The Astor House was the Astor family‘s first foray into hotels, it opened in 1836 and was considered for decades to be the most prestigious hotel in the country. An incredible piece of early New York hotel history!

The second mark is a bit worn, as we all would be after 140+ years, but it originally read "E. M. 128 S. 5 AV. N. Y. “ - that is Elie Moneuse, who worked at that 5th Avenue address from 1874-1887 while he was in a snit and refusing to work with Duparquet. Duparquet and Moneuse died within months of each other, and their children reunited the two brands along with son-in-law Huot, to create the DH & M Co. copper we all know and love. And that's your old New York copper makers lesson for the day!

Excellent antique condition, lots and lots of small signs of age and use in the way of small marks and surface scratches, but no big dents or damage. This pot has been newly polished and retinned it so it is ready for use!

Measures 19.5” wide by 4.5” deep, nearly 24“ long including handles; this heavy hotel or commercial weight pot weighs nearly 15 pounds empty. The rim measures 1.8mm wide with slight variation.
