A rare, one of a kind circa 1880s silver plated tilting teapot on stand made by Tiffany and Company! The base of the teapot is engraved “Private Car Atalanta.” Atalanta was the name of the private train car of the New York gilded age financier and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. We have a few pieces of his personal Tiffany & Co silver, three railroad pieces and one from his yacht of the same name.
In excellent condition, no dents or damage, just small signs of use and age. There is a patch of brassiness showing through the silver plate on the back of the teapot and one side of the base, these are difficult to photograph once the piece is polished up but I’ve tried to show these two spots in photos. I believe this was where someone had monograms removed (why they would do that to such historic pieces I do not know!). This could be easily fixed by having the pieces re-plated. The wooden handle has a slight wobble due to shrinkage, but is still very securely attached. All 3 pieces marked underneath with Tiffany and Company makers marks.
Measures 7.75" across including spout, 6” across at the base, 11.25 inches tall with the handle up and 9.5” tall to the top of the finial with the handle down.
