A lovely antique circa 1914 English glass match striker with sterling silver rim. Excellent antique condition, just some very small fleabites to the glass and a couple barely noticeable bumps to the sterling. Full hallmarks for Sterling Silver assayed in Birmingham in the year 1914.
Measures a bit over 5" tall by 5.25" wide.
Because of it's large size the small strike anywhere matches that are currently available fall just below the silver rim and don't display well, this match striker was made for 4 inch long matches like the ones shown in the photo. Unfortunately, they no longer make strike anywhere matches in that size so the striker will either just have to be decorative, or you could keep some strike anywhere matches near it in a cup or smaller striker and still use it to strike. Alternatively, you could also put a piece of modern match striking paper on the base, then you could lift it up to strike modern safety matches on the bottom.
