Antique Tiffany & Co Silver Butter Dish from Jay Gould Yacht Atalanta

$695.00
Current stock: 0 SOLD OUT

A rare circa 1880s silver plated cold butter dish made by Tiffany and Company! In excellent condition, no dents or damage aside from one teeny bump to the edge of the interior butter plate, just small signs of use an age. The original removable perforated plate is still present, and the lid has its original finial. Marked underneath with Tiffany and Company makers marks.

One side of the dish is engraved with a G monogram in a rope pattern, the other side of the dish is engraved with the name Atalanta. Atalanta was the name of both the yacht and private train car of the New York gilded age financier and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. We have a few pieces of his Tiffany & Co silver, the railroad pieces will be listed next week, however this is the only piece we’ve ever found from his yacht. The rope monogram is what makes it stand apart from the train pieces, the train pieces are marked “private car“ instead.

Measures 7.25" across and 6.5" tall to the top of the finial.
