A lovely and rare antique circa late 1800s silver plated serving compote made by Reed & Barton for the United States Hotel, in Boston, Massachusetts. The United States Hotel was one of the first major hotels in the US, it opened in 1838 to great fanfair. It was open a little under 100 years but the large, luxurious hotel faltered during prohibition, and the building was demolished in 1930. This is a fantastic piece of early American hotel history!

Excellent antique condition, small marks and signs of use but no dents or damage. The top of the base features the hotel name, with Reed & Barton marks underneath.

Measures approximately 6.75 inches tall by 10 inches across at the top.
