A wonderful antique circa early 1900s copper gratin dish with sterling silver lining made by Joseph Heinrichs. Joseph Heinrichs made and sold very high quality cookware through such well regarded retailers as Tiffany & Co, and directly to many of the finest restaurants and hotels from 1897-1937... In the past we have had Joseph Heinrichs pieces from the Waldorf Astoria, The Plaza, and a number of other fine restaurants and hotels. This particular piece was made for the Hotel McAlpin in New York City! The McAlpin opened in 1912 on the corner of Broadway and 34th Street in Manhattan. It was the largest hotel in the world at the time, having a staff of 1,500 and accommodating 2,500 guests
Beautifully made, in amazing condition for its age, small surface marks and scratches but no dents or damage, it sits flat. the Gish has been polished inside and out; the sterling lining is in excellent condition with only very minor wear to the edge of the handles. Though this was designed for eggs and au gratin dishes, it’s actually the perfect size and shape to serve as an ice bucket!
Measures 9 inches across the handles by 6.25 inches wide by about 5 inches tall.
