A stunning antique circa 1890s English silver plated biscuit box with cut glass body and Ebony handle. This mechanical biscuit box has chains that open the doors, as you grip the top handle and lift the biscuit box the chains are pulled upwards and open the doors automatically so you can carry this box around the room and offer biscuits or treats to guests.
In excellent condition for its age, no dents or damage, just small signs of use and age to the silver. No cracks or damage to the glass body, just the tiniest little flea bite chips that can only be seen when looking very closely along the edges of some of the cut work. The base looks like it may have been reinforced with glue at some point, as these old silver elements were often attached to the glass with a type of cement or beeswax epoxy that wears away over the years. This can only be seen when looking through the base, it's invisible when the box is just sitting or in use. point Made by James Deakin.
Measures approximately 11” long by 11” high by 5" deep.
