A petite mid to late 19th Century English lidded copper pan with iron handles and tinned interior. In amazing condition for its age, no dents or damage, just the kinds of small marks and signs of use you’d expect from old copper that is about 150+ years old. Both the pan and lid are engraved with the crown or coronet of an Earl and the initial S, and stamped “30.” This pot was made for the kitchen at Althorp house, home to the Spencer family for over 500 years. This pot came to market at the Spencer sale held by Christie’s auctions in 2010, when items from Althorp House were selected and sold at auction to fund the restoration and preservation of this historic home.

Measures 4.75 inches across not including handles, 10.5 inches in length including the handle, by 3.5 inches deep. This pot with lid weighs an impressive 2+ pounds empty, amazing for a pot of the small size! The walls vary from 2 mm to 2.3 mm thick near the rim, and are much thicker near the base of the pot.
