An antique circa mid to late-1800s English copper roasting or braising pan with brass handles. Stamped on one side with “H. S. Vandeleur,” Hector Stewart Vandeleur was the Lord Lieutenant of County Clare, Ireland. He and his family lived at both Kilrush House and Cahercon House in Ireland and owned a grand home in London as well, this spectacular roasting dish probably came from the kitchen of one of their fine estates.
Weighing in at more than 10 pounds, this super-sturdy piece was definitely built to last. The craftsmanship is superb! The pot features dovetail or cramp seams, with two sturdily attached brass swing handles. This antique pan has been cleaned, polished, and professionally re-tinned. In excellent condition, small surface marks that you would expect from 120+ year old copper cookware, small marks and dings but no damage or structural issues. A time worn Benham & Froud makers mark can be found on the base, along with a London retailer’s mark on one side.
Measures 16.5" long by 12.75” wide by 4.75” tall.
