An antique circa 1920s silver plated menu or table number holder from the Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels company! The company was originally incorporated in 1866 as The Hongkong Hotel Company Limited, owner of the Hong Kong Hotel (opened in 1868). The company merged with the Shanghai Hotel in 1922 to become Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels in the following year. The company is best known today as owner and operator of the luxurious Peninsula hotels around the world. 1928 was the year the original peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong officially open to the public, so this piece is probably from that hotel's opening!

In excellent condition for its age, no large dents or damage aside from a bit of a bend to the frame, which makes it a bit off square but still perfectly usable. Marked on the base as made by Elkington with a date mark for manufacture in the year 1928.

Measures approximately 4.5" tall by 4" wide, with a top opening of 3.5" x 1.25"
