A lovely antique circa 1870-80s English glass match striker with wide sterling silver rim. Excellent antique condition, just some small signs of age and use, a few small bumps to the sterling and some marks and scratches to the glass. Full hallmarks for Sterling Silver, but they are rubbed and hard to read. Based on the style of the glass and sterling I would place it at about 140-150 years old, possibly older, it’s certainly one of the oldest strikers we’ve come across!

The worn sterling ribs are a bit harder to strike a match on, because strike anywhere matches were made much stronger back in the days before regulation. You can strike on it, but it usually takes a few tries, so this particular piece might be better suited for a large collection, rather than your only dedicated match striker.
