A fabulous antique circa 1912 English glass match striker with sterling silver and purple & white Guilloché enamel rim. Guilloché is a repeating pattern made in metal, in this case and beautiful wide machine bands of pattern were made in the sterling silver, then covered with a lovely light purple and white enamel. This is clearly a custom-made piece for a very discerning buyer, only the second match striker I've ever seen with this type of enamel work and in such an impressive size!
Excellent antique condition, just some very small fleabites to the glass and a couple small spots of wear to the enamel. Full hallmarks for Sterling Silver assayed in London in the year 1912.
Measures approximately 5.25" tall by 5.5" wide.
Because of it's large size the small strike anywhere matches that are currently available fall just below the silver rim and don't display well, this match striker was made for 4 inch long matches like the ones shown in the photo. Unfortunately, they no longer make strike anywhere matches in that size so the striker will either just have to be decorative, or you could keep some strike anywhere matches near it in a cup or smaller striker and still use it to strike. Alternatively, you could also put a piece of modern match striking paper on the base, then you could lift it up to strike modern safety matches on the bottom.
