A rare vintage circa 1928 solid nickel gratin baking dish made by Joseph Heinrich for the Cafe Savarin in NYC. Cafe Savarin was a stunning restaurant and cafe in the Equitable Building located at 120 Broadway in New York city’s financial district. It was clad in Rookwood pottery tiles; floors, walls and ceiling. The final images are menus and interior photos found while researching this restaurant. Joseph Heinrichs made and sold very high quality cookware through such well regarded retailers as Tiffany & Co, and directly to many of the finest restaurants and hotels from 1897-1937... In the past we have had Joseph Heinrichs pieces from the Waldorf Astoria, The Plaza, and a number of other fine restaurants and hotels. in fantastic condition for its age, no dents or damage. There are a few speckles of discoloration on the nickel surface, but nothing that would affect its usefulness. Marked on one arm with the café name dated 1928, marked underneath as made by Joseph Heinrichs of solid nickel. Measures approximately 8 inches long including arms, with an interior size of 6“ x 4“.
