A stunning antique circa 1920-30s heavy copper cooking pot with hand applied tin lining and a riveted iron handle, made by J. Gaillard! this is a heavy, hotel quality piece that is stamped with “DENIS.” I believe this piece came from the restaurant Chez Denis in Paris, France. Chez Denis was a small but pricey restaurant owned by chef Denis Lahana in the 17th on the rue Gustave Flaubert specializing in classic French cuisine, for a long time it was really only well known to gourmands and food writers, but was finally mentioned in newspapers and gained new fame when a New York Times food writer had a now infamous $4000 dinner for two.
This is a beautiful piece, made to last generations. The copper is very heavy, hotel or commercial weight, at the rim it is around 3.5 mm. A new tin lining was hand applied and it has been polished to a beautiful shine, so it is ready to use again! There are plenty of small marks to the outside, as to be expected from a piece that was used in a commercial environment for decades. The iron handle is sturdy and well-connected. The pan has been stamped for J. Gaillard Paris.
Measures 8" across by 4.75” deep, 16.75” long including handle. 3.4-3.6mm width at the lip. Weighs 8 lbs. 6 oz. empty!
