A beautiful vintage circa 1940s heavy silver plated champagne cooler or large ice bucket, marked with an applied logo from The Plaza hotel in New York City! This is a rather unique mystery piece, as it combines the iconic plaza hotel logo on the front with classic Waldorf-Astoria patterned handles and a gadroon patterned top border usually seen on Hilton hotel pieces. There was a time in the 1940s and early 1950s that Conrad Hilton and the Hilton hotel corporation owned and managed both the Plaza and the Waldorf Astoria, in addition to the Hilton hotels. I believe this piece may have been a factory sample, used specifically for orders for the Hilton hotel corporation. They used this same bucket shape and size for all three hotels, with varying design elements such as handles and logos to distinguish between the hotels. This piece showcases all three design elements you would find on silver from hotels in the Hilton Hotels portfolio in the 1940s. Truly a one-of-a-kind piece of New York hotel history!

Excellent condition, no dents or damage, just a few small signs of age, this piece doesn’t actually appear to have ever been used. It has polished up perfectly with no silver loss at all! There is no makers mark on the base, but all the pieces you find from these three hotels in the 1940s and 50s were made by International Silver, so I believe this piece came out of the international silver factory.

Measures approx. 6" tall by 9" wide including handles.
