A lovely antique circa 1898 English glass match striker or cigarette holder with sterling silver rim. This piece was found in England and sold as a Match Striker, but it is hollow and too tall to hold normal kitchen matches - it was either meant for oversized cigar/fireplace matches or (more likely) this piece was meant to serve as a striker and hold cigarettes or cigars instead of matches. It has been tested and matches do strike easily on the rough glass surface. Due to the translucent nature of the glass it would make a beautiful tea light lantern.

Excellent antique condition, just some small signs of age and use. Full hallmarks for Sterling Silver, assayed in Birmingham in 1898.

Measures about 3.75” tall by a bit over 3.75” wide.
